Bill Maher slams Neil deGrasse Tyson for refusing to say men have advantages over women in sports: ‘Don’t bully me’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher slammed liberal scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson over his refusal to say men have a physical advantage over women in sports, insisting he’s “part of the problem.”

The exchange began when Maher spotlighted the ousting of Scientific American’s editor-in-chief for her viral attacks on Trump voters.

However, Maher felt that the magazine’s real “scandal” was an article it published last year claiming that “The disparity between male and female athletes is not the result of inherent biological differences between the sexes, but of biases in how they treated in sports”.

“That’s bad and certainly not scientific,” Maher responded. “And it’s in Scientific American. And that’s why the Democrats lost the election.”

The famous astrophysicist responded by letting out a big belly laugh.

“It’s true,” Maher doubled down.

“Bill, every 20 minutes on your platform, you come up with another reason why the Democrats lost,” Tyson said.

“This is not true. First of all, you don’t watch this show, so you don’t know,” Maher replied. “I know you don’t and that’s okay, but you talk like you do and you’re not related. And that’s okay, just don’t insult me. That’s the only thing people can’t ever do on this show is bulls—me.”

“Commit to the idea here,” Maher said afterward. “What I’m asking is Scientific American is basically saying that the reason a WNBA team can’t beat the Lakers is because of societal bias.”

“What you’re saying is not ‘Scientific American says this,'” an editor tells Scientific American who no longer has that job,” Tyson responded. “So don’t sue a 170-year-old journal because someone . . .

“Ok, this is called Scientific American!” Maher shouted. “And they’re pressing something—”

“Because someone who enters the cesspool that is social media and then participates in that exchange. Let’s talk science!” Tyson said.

“Why can’t you say that this is not scientific and that Scientific American should do better?” Maher asked.

“Well, does she still have her job?” Tyson objected.

“Not because of this!” Maher shouted. “I said the scandal is not her tweeting… don’t you see a problem here?”

“Long distance swimming, women might actually have the advantage, you look at that,” Tyson replied.

“Yeah, maybe long-distance swimming… Well, I’ll write you under ‘part of the problem,'” Maher joked.

Later in the panel discussion, Maher was stunned by Tyson’s refusal to budge on the subject.

“I can’t get a scientist to say that Scientific American, the magazine, like many institutions, has been ideologically captured by this very, very extreme left wing to the point where they’re denying things that are just obvious to the naked eye. “, Maher said.

“He wouldn’t actually handle the substance!” journalist Andrew Sullivan reacted. “And people are not stupid. They see them doing these [statements]and they see Democrats denying—and liberals refusing to deny them. Why? What is Neil afraid of? I know what he’s afraid of. He’s afraid of a massive social media crowd coming out and calling him out – he’s a sexist bigot and all. We have to get over this!”

“It’s crazy,” Maher agreed. “And people see that and they say ‘Well then I can’t trust you on anything else.’ I mean, look at that ad that Kamala Harris — that Trump ran against her about being transgender in prison, like , “We’ll pay for inmates to have transgender surgery” that affects like three people in the world. But she wouldn’t say, ‘That was stupid. I just wouldn’t do that again.’ And people say, “Well, then I can’t trust you for anything else.”
